Another Reason Not to Smoke

Working in response to the work of Dr Megan Macleod and her team at the School of Infection and Immunity, University of Glasgow, I made React! React! React! or Three Stories of Autoimmunity or Another Reason Not to Smoke, a risograph publication that imagines the immune system as a bunch of naughty schoolboys, last spotted belting seven shades of shit out of each other in Cocteau’s The Blood of a Poet (1932).

Still wearing some cracking capes but also sporting the pixelated hoodies of Loewe’s SS23 collection and some over the top puffer jackets, these wee lads become self proteins, quite unfairly attacked in autoimmune diseases by some bully T-cells. It’s a theatre of the flesh!

Derek McCormack was a huge influence on this thing and everyone at Good Press helped me get my head round riso printing. Made for Pint of Science 2025 (thank you Emily).

Pint of Science is a grassroots non-profit organisation that has grown astronomically over the few years since two people decided to share their research in the pub. Although our mission has expanded, our core values remain the same: to provide a space for researchers and members of the public alike to come together, be curious, and chat about research in a relaxed environment outside of mysterious laboratories or daunting dark lecture theatres. We believe that everyone has a place at the table to discuss the research going on both on our doorsteps and far beyond. Our missions and visions are based around the people that matter most: our audience, volunteers, speakers, and our wider research communityhttps://pintofscience.co.uk/about/
