Scream For Me Glasgow! (2024)

This collage was part of From Glasgow to Saturn‘s Issue 52 Radical Joy. Thanks for the inclusion!

Developing an unhealthy interest in hair (the hairy, the hairless and hair that strikes out on its own), Scream for Me Glasgow! (2024) is a tribute to the beautiful hair of the young Bruce Dickenson (Iron Maiden) and the younger-still Spells Topping (cat), with Spells donating fur to the cause. A version of a work first seen in Drew Barrymore’s Island Hotel from Hell (2023), this book page joyfully celebrates these leather-clad, demonstrative, ebullient scream queens.

This work was developed from a work first shown in solo exhibition Drew Barrymore’s Island Hotel from Hell and now sits comfortably in the Shit Hair Research Project.

Published in Issue 52 of From Glasgow to Saturn. From Glasgow to Saturn is a literary journal at the University of Glasgow. Based in the English Literature department, and run by students of the university’s Creative Writing Programme, it publishes prose fiction, poetry, spoken word performance, essays, and articles on the craft of writing. Also features illustration, graphic design, and photography, as well as audio and video productions occasionally on our website. From Glasgow to Saturn aim to showcase work by current students and staff of Glasgow University and the Glasgow School of Art. We publish both undergraduate and postgraduate work. We also publish work by alumni (of any and all courses, including short and continuing education), and current/former members of staff. Originally established in 2007, the magazine has a compelling and impressive history. Past contributors include Alan Bissett, Rodge Glass, Karen Campbell, Kirsty Logan, John Jennett, Zoë Strachan, Laura Marney and Elizabeth Reeder. You will find their work, along with lots more, in the archives of previous issues.
